Explore Sutherland and Badcall Bay - Stay at the Eddrachilles Hotel
Badcall Bay is an ideal base for exploring the Northen Highlands and West of Scotland.
A few miles away is Handa Island - famous for magnificent cliffs and sea stacks and as a haven for birds. The island can be reached via a short boat trip from nearby Tarbet.
The waterfalls of Eascoul-Aluin lie to the south. With a fall of 658 feet these Scottish waterfalls are the tallest in Britain. Here you can watch seals or explore the caves and rock arches that have been carved out by the sea.
Further north are deserted beaches that stretch for miles and the haunted Sandood Bay - graveyard of many ships that perished off Cape Wrath.
A draw for hikers and climbers, the rugged, wild scenery of the hills and rocks is interspersed with thousands of small lochs across the Sutherland region.
With island-studded bays and spectacular scenery, this area has been made Scotland's first 'Global Geopark'.
The Eddrachilles Hotel [pictured above right] is the perfect place to stay - a 200 year old building situated at the head of Badcall Bay. The grounds run down to the shore and, although it is not a dedicated fishing hotel, membership of the local angling club is available to guests at a reasonable charge.
This Badcall Bay hotel has been awarded 3 Stars from the Scottish Tourist Board, 2 Stars and 70% from the AA, and is included in The Michelin Guide, Good Hotel Guide and Scotland the Best.
All the bedrooms have private en-suite facilities and the hotel is fully licensed, with an extensive wine list and over 100 single malt whiskies.
