Explore Oban and Argyll - Stay in a Holiday Cottage or a Hotel
Oban is one of the most popular destinations for visitors to the west coast of Scotland, and not just because as a port it offers a number of links and ferry services to the nearby islands such as the Isle of Mull.
The town is the largest between Helensburgh and Fort William and it has local amenities including swimming pool, leisure complex, tennis courts, squash courts and bowling green.
Oban is also an ideal base from which to explore Argyll and the West Highlands.
There is a well known drive from Glasgow to Oban, along the side of Loch Lomond (taking in some fantastic scenery on the way), through the Historic Town of Inveraray (the town's castle is home to the Duke of Argyll), then past Loch Awe and Loch Etive.
Oban Hotels and Guest Houses
There is a wide choice of this type of accommodation in Oban, something to suit most budgets and expectations. Some of the best accommodation is to be found a short drive to the north or south of the town centre, where stunning views across the water to the islands in the distance is a feature.
One of these attractive locations is the idyllic Isle of Seil. A tiny island similar in size to Iona (off the coast of its much larger neighbour Mull), Seil is reached over the famous little Clachan Bridge - known as 'The Bridge Over The Atlantic'.
Ach St Clair is a delightful cottage situated on the water's edge on the Isle of Seil, about ten miles from Oban - an ideal holiday home for your visit to the area.
'Waverley' - The Last Sea-going Paddle Steamer in the World
Built in 1947, the Waverley Paddle Steamer has been magnificently restored to provide boat trips and journeys full of nostalgia for up to 750 passengers (from May to October).
Sail from Oban or Fort William during May, or Glasgow and various Clyde Coast piers from June to August and mid October.
Enjoy a Summer Sunday with a roast dinner and stunning views! Steam around Ailsa Craig on a Monday - the weekly programme and further details can be found on the Waverley Excursions Website (link below).
The steamer is available for Day Trips, Special Group Outings, or individual reservations - there's a cruise to suit just about everyone! Enjoy a full day, afternoon or evening cruise. If you are touring or exploring, one way journey options could provide a memorable highlight during your holiday.
